Dark Star Orchestra, Illinois’ sensational Grateful Dead tribute artists are bringing their signature Grateful Dead experience to Saban Theater!
Dark Star Orchestra was formed in Chicago in 1997 when guitarist John Kadlecik contacted keyboardist Scott Larned about playing all of Grateful Dead’s performances. Scott agreed and they recruited Kevin Rosen (bass, vocals), John Kadlecik (lead guitar, vocals), Mike Maraat (rhythm guitar, vocals), and Ahmer Nizam (drums) to complete the line-up. The band takes its name from the Grateful Dead’s famous song ‘Dark Star’ and has been through many line-up changes since its formation. It currently consists of Lisa Mackey (vocals), Rob Koritz (drums, percussion), Dino English (drums, percussion), Rob Eaton (rhythm guitar, vocals), Rob Barraco (keyboards, vocals), Jeff Mattson (lead guitar, vocals), and Skip Vangelas (bass, vocals). They’ve made a name for themselves by playing the complete original set list of each of the Grateful Dead’s live shows. They also change their phrasing, voice arrangements, and musical equipment in accordance with the various eras of the Grateful Dead’s performance history. They’ve also had the honor of having some of the Grateful Dead’s members (rhythm guitarist/singer Bob Weir, bassist Phil Lesh, drummer Bill Kreutzmann, vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux, and keyboardists Vince Welnick and Tom Constanten) perform with them during some of their shows.
