George Thorogood and The Destroyers, Delaware’s sensational blues rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Saban Theater!
George Thorogood was born in Wilmington (Delaware) in 1950 and is a singer-songwriter and blues-rock guitarist. He played semi-pro baseball (as a second baseman) during the 1970s but decided to become a musician after seeing John Paul Hammond in concert. He cites Elmore James, Hound Dog Taylor, and Chuck Berry as his main influences and he made a name for himself through consistent exposure on radio as well as on the arena rock circuit. In 1973 he, along with high school friend drummer Jeff Simon, formed the Destroyers. The band’s been through numerous line-up changes since then and currently consists of George (lead vocals, lead guitar), Jeff Simon (drums, percussion), Billy Blough (bass guitar), Jim Suhler (rhythm guitar), and Buddy Leach (saxophone, piano). Their music is loud, simple, and direct; a mixture of Chicago blues and rock and roll that’s given them a stellar career with 16 studio albums (of which 6 have been certified Gold and 2 have achieved Platinum status), 6 live albums, 7 compilation albums, and 15 million records sold worldwide. The band is a relentless touring machine (in 1981 they performed in all 50 states over 50 days) and they celebrated their 40th performance anniversary in 2014.
