Jesse Cook, Canada’s sensational new flamenco artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Saban Theater!
Jesse Arnaud Cook was born in Paris (France) in 1964 and is a guitarist, composer, and producer. He moved to Canada at an early age and began his musical journey by taking lessons at a guitar academy run by renowned Canadian classical guitar teacher and musician, Eli Kasser. He was also fascinated by flamenco music and immersed himself in it. He went on to study classical and jazz guitar (at Canada's Royal Conservatory of Music, York University, and Berklee College of Music in the US) and he eventually developed a hybrid guitar playing style. He said in an interview, “I was a classical guitarist as a kid, and I studied flamenco and then I studied jazz. So there are three musical and guitar traditions in my background. And one of the forms I use, rumba flamenco, is itself a hybrid created in the 1800s when sailors were coming back to Spain from Cuba, having heard these Cuban rhythms. And here I am, 150 years later, taking it and mixing it back with modern music and seeing where it takes me.” He’s had a stellar career with 12 studio albums, 4 video albums, and he’s sold over 1.5 million records worldwide. He’s received many accolades including a Juno Award, 3 Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards (for Guitarist of the Year), and an Acoustic Guitar magazine’s Player's Choice Award (Silver) in the Flamenco Category.
