Micky Dolenz (birth name George Michael Dolenz, Jr.) was born in Los Angeles in 1945 and is a singer, drummer, actor, television director, radio personality, and theater director. He was introduced to show business at an early age by his parents (actors George Dolenz and Janelle Johnson) and he started to audition for acting roles when he was just 6 years old. When he was 10, he landed the role of Corky (an orphaned water boy for the elephants in a one ring circus) on NBC’s children's show, Circus Boy. He started to focus on music as a teenager and in the early 1960’s, he formed a rock group called Micky and the One-Nighters. In 1965, he successfully auditioned for the pop/rock band the Monkees. Though he started off as the drummer, he eventually became the lead vocalist and the band went on to become the decade’s teen idol with a parade of memorable pop hits and some genuinely inspired albums. He’s also had a stellar solo career with 11 studio albums, 17 singles, and he’s also starred in many films, TV shows, and musicals. His directorial credits include the sitcom Metal Mickey, he British children's television show Luna, and the stage version of the British gangster comedy film, Bugsy Malone.
