Morris Day and The Time, Minnesota's sensational funk rock, soul, and pop music artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Saban Theater!
Morris Day and the Time was formed in Minneapolis in 1981 under a clause in Warner Brothers’ contract with legendary musician Prince. The clause allowed him to recruit and produce other artists for the label and Prince decided to put together a pop-funk group that would serve as an outlet for material in the vein of his own early albums, while he pursued other genres in his solo career. The band is led by singer-songwriter Morris Day (lead vocals, backing vocals) and has been through various line-up changes. Currently the band also includes Monte Moir (keyboard, backing vocals), Jimmy Jam (keyboard, backing vocals), Terry Lewis (bass, backing vocals), Jerome Benton (backing vocals, percussion), Jellybean Johnson (drums, guitar, backing vocals), Ricky "Freeze" Smith (bass, backing vocals), Christian Crooks (guitar, backing vocals), Torrell "Tori" Ruffin (guitar, backing vocals). Their work features a mix of soul music and dance music with funk, rock n roll, and the band has released 5 studio albums and 12 singles. The band became very popular amongst R&B fans with the singles Jerk Out and Jungle Love. In September 2011, the band’s name was changed to The Original 7ven and after Prince’s death in April 2016, live performances were held in his memory.
