Petula Clark (birth name Sally Olwen Clark) was born in Epsom (Surrey, England) in 1932 and is a singer, actress and composer. Over the years, her musical style has spanned many genres such as AM pop (the dominant sound of Top 40 AM radio during the 1960s and '70s), sunshine pop (a subgenre of pop that developed from easy listening, advertising jingles, and the growing drug culture of the 60’s), soft rock (a subgenre of pop music that largely features acoustic guitars and slow to mid tempos), adult contemporary (popular radio music, ranging from 1960s vocal and 1970s soft rock music to predominantly ballad heavy music of the present day, with varying degrees of easy listening, pop, soul, rhythm and blues, and rock influence), and British Invasion (a genre that developed in the mid 1960s, when rock and pop music acts from the United Kingdom, as well as other aspects of British culture, became popular in the United States, and contributed to the rise of the counterculture rock movement). She’s had a stellar career with many hit albums, extended plays, singles, and she’s sold over 68 million records worldwide.
